Physician Education Requirements

The education requirements in the US for a physician are typically four years of undergraduate study, four years of post-graduate or medical school, and at least three more years of internship residency.

The bachelors degree is usually in some sort of science or pre-med.  You can have a bachelors degree in anything as long as you take the required pre-requisite classes which you will need to apply to medical school.  These pre-requisites are very science-based, which is why most medical school applicants have a bachelors in a science-related field.

After getting the BS and completing medical school, doctors must complete an additional three to eight years of residency.  The duration depends on how the doctor does during the residency and what specialization they select.  A residency for a brain-surgeon is going to be more than a pediatrician.
